BIOGAS

Our biogas plant consists of a custom-designed two stage, batch-fed, continuous-type digestor. A temperature monitored system in which thermophyllic digestion takes place, it is essentially a computer controlled “ideal”  breeding ground for certain types of bacteria that feed on organic material, in this case cattle manure. In doing so, the bacteria release methane which is captured, cleaned and ultimately burned in a gas stove in the rural kitchens of our customers.

Fully automated, the system is designed for ease-of-use and low maintenance in rural areas. It is dimensioned to provide up to 4000 litres of biogas daily, having a minimum methane content of 65%. Using single burner stoves with a flow rate of 125 litres/hour, this allows sufficient cooking time for 10 families at 3 hours per day.

A hydrogen sulfide (H2S) “scrubber” removes corrosive and poisonous hydrogen sulphide before the gas is provisioned to filling containers for use at home.

By choosing to buy these services, rural families cut their dependance on fire wood and coal. Their annual usage estimated at 4.8 tons of wood per annum or 14 trees, this has a significant destructive impact on the environment, both in the form of deforestation and carbon emissions.

With an estimated 1.6M people dying annually of respiratory diseases caused by inhalation of pollutants due to open fire cooking, we will make a significant impact on lives saved also.
