Imagine the sun is your only source of light – when it sets, there is nothing but darkness all around you.

Imagine trying to cook or read without light. The only sources of light you might have are a kerosene lamp or a wood fire that spews toxic smoke.

You have no choice but to inhale that smoke as it engulfs your home day in and day out. Your children’s ability to learn is affected by the lack of light with which to study and read at night. As a result they do not do as well as they could.

Imagine life where you are lucky enough to have a mobile phone. Unfortunately it takes you half a day to walk to the nearest town to charge your phone for a fee and in some cases it may even take a whole day. That time is lost to you.

Imagine living in a place where there is no easy access to clean water. You walk miles to the nearest river, lake or well to fetch water in a can. Then you have to carry it back home to use. You make this trip several times a day, seven days a week. Often this water is contaminated with harmful pathogens. These contaminants cause serious illness, long term suffering and even death. Your children are particularly vulnerable and may even die!

The result of this life style is a never ending cycle of poverty, illness and death. Many hours are spent on these life critical but menial tasks instead of engaging in income generating activities.

This destructive cycle can be changed by creating alternative energy and water choices. That is what “Changing Rural Life Forever” is doing. Access to energy and clean water is a luxury to billions of people around the world and not a basic right as it should be.

We envisage a world where everyone can switch on a light to read and move around safely and not have to use kerosene lamps which emit toxic fumes and cause a multitude of illnesses. Where men, women and children can drink clean water and not fall sick, light a stove fueled with clean energy like biogas and have access to fertiliser to ensure a good harvest of crops for personal consumption or for sale.

We are creating that world by providing a solution that tackles these fundamental issues through simplicity, robustness and scalability. It will kick start economies in rural areas and as a result raise communities out of poverty and reduce the instances of disease.
